Spyderco Bushcraft G-10 PlainEdge Knife with Leather Sheath

Bushcraft is a tradition as much as a sport.  It follows a regime of survival skills derived originally from Bushmen of the southern hemisphere.  It’s mainstreamed today by UK resident Ray Mears through his televised programs outlining how to thrive and survive with only a knife both skillfully and comfortably in nature. Spyderco’s version of a Bushcraft knife results from a three-fold collaboration between Tactical Bushcrafter Chris Claycombe, a Bushcraft website called BushcraftUK.com and Spyderco designers. Knives used in the practice of Bushcraft have specific parameters such as possessing blades between 4-6 inches.  Spyderco’s is typical of the genre with a 4-inch blade (no handguard) that’s fully-tanged.  The blade is a Scandinavian or Scandi grind.  Scandi edges have a single bevel grind, wide and flat that cuts with strength and is able to withstand twisting and hacking.  The blade is made from O-1 tool steel.  Bushcrafters generally don’t seek the characteristics of stainless over the performance of high-carbon edge retention, and is why traditional Bushcraft knives are produced using tool steel for their blades.  O-1’s high carbon content holds a long-term edge but also sharpens easily when laying on a new edge. The black G-10 handle is contoured for comfort with a backup lanyard hole and the knife carries in a leather sheath.  It is overall blueprinted for performing wilderness chores such as slicing, chopping, whittling and game processing all done in traditional Bushcraft styleThe tradition of bushcraft is derived from the bushmen of the southern hemisphere, and involves having the survival skill to survive, and ultimately thrive, in the wilderness with little more than a trusty knife. The Bushcraft knife, from innovative cutlery company Spyderco, was crafted to honor this tradition, its design the result of a collaboration between tactical bushcraft expert Chris Claycombe, popular bushcraft website BushcraftUK.com, and Spyderco designers.

A fully-tanged, four-inch blade has no hand guard, as is typical of a bushcraft knife, and features a Scandinavian grind. The “Scandi grind,” as it’s sometimes known, offers edges with a single bevel grind, wide and flat and remarkably durable. O-1 tool steel’s high carbon content holds a keen edge over time and heavy use, while also sharpening easily. A black G-10 handle is contoured for a comfortable, natural grip in your palm, and the included sheath lets you bring your Bushcraft along wherever your outdoor adventures take you.

About Spyderco
Thinking beyond established knife industry practices has allowed Spyderco to introduce new innovations, including one-hand opening, serrations on a folder, and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket. Spyderco remains dedicated to researching and developing improved, better-performing materials with function and reliability, and its unique cutlery line is a result of designing ergonomic, functional tools. The company puts its new products through rigorous testing prior to release, examining edge retention with a CATRA machine, looking for rust development with Q-FOG, checking the force needed to open and close a knife, and analyzing numerous other technical details.
